BEST WAYS TO CARE FOR CANVAS SHOES

They’re comfortable and stylish, but they’re also delicate. Wash them by hand. Take the laces out to soak in water and detergent, brush off large pieces of dirt from the shoes with a toothbrush, then dip a clean brush into a detergent solution and clean up stains by hand. Rinse with cold water, and dry with a paper towel or newspaper inside the shoe as well as leaving the shoes out to air. Use spray starch to help repel dirt and grime.

SALVATORE FERRAGAMO’S GOLDEN RULES OF SHOE CARE

A new pair should never be worn for too long. Wait until your feet are accustomed before you wear them all day.

Never wear the same pair of shoes two days in a row. Let them rest for at least a day before wearing them again.

Always use a shoehorn when putting on your shoes to avoid damage.

Before removing a lace-up shoe, loosen the laces completely, so the shoe is able to slip off nice and easily.

Once shoes are taken off, insert made-to-measure shoe trees to keep the original form.

Shoe trees should also be used when shoes are wet from rain or snow: leave to dry for an entire day.

To help increase the shelf life, each time you wear a pair of shoes, they should be cleaned and polished.

When you don’t wear your shoes, wax them, put them in a drawstring bag, and keep in a box in a dark cupboard.
